Bit o'advice, stay away from Datek. They reek. Barron's had some good reviews of the online brokers in this past Sat edition.

Difficult to advise you, depends what you care most about. Low commissions? Reliable online trading systems? Sophisticated options plays? Fast executions? Good executions? Record keeping?

CSFBDirect is the best for availability of shorts (has access to the institutional inventory of Pershing).

Personally I like to have my IRAs at brokers who will let me buy puts and calls. Then I can short by buying deep-in-the-money leap puts. Choices include Dreyfus and Fidelity.

Personally I use CSFBDirect, Dreyfus and Schwab and I'm happy with all 3. But I'm fairly easy to please.
