Yup, you are right....my mistake. Nonetheless, my statement re Antartica et al remains true...whether there is CO2 or not is a moot point. The ingredients needed for smog are not there. In the link you provide there is no mention of CO2 causing smog directly. The only indirect statement that even mildly supports the claim that CO2 contributes to smog is "In addition, global warming may exacerbate the photochemical smog problem." Once again, I never said that CO2 causes smog. However, it makes good sense to me that its increase in the atmosphere enhances is enhancing smog production. Why? Because smog is a gaseous brew that develops under certain atmospheric conditions. Emissions from cars primarily and the heat from the sun get trapped under a layer of cool air. The sun and its heat helps to convert the car emission gases into the chemicals that make up smog. Now its not a huge leap to think that the increase in retained heat in the atmosphere due to the increase of CO2 helps contribute to the production of smog. The amount of effect from CO2 I think is hard to measure because of all the other variables involved...degree heat, wind, amount of cool air, number of emissions etc. A bit of a tenuous link to use to support your claim that CO2 plays any significant role in the production of smog. Particularly it does not support your statement The link was not definitive rather than tenuous. Sorry, I don't have time to find something that will satisfy your doubts.BTW CO2 does not attract radiant heat from outer space. It functions to help trap some of that heat that otherwise might escape, but it does not attract anything. It should have read that the radiant heat coming from outer space is retained by the CO2 after it bounces off the earth. Obviously, I answered your post too quickly. Nonetheless, the end result remains the same.....more heat in the atmosphere. ted
