Joey,

Reducing power on a new design (like K7) is actually very straightforward. Large reductions in power can be made simply by running at lower voltage and frequency. Cutting the voltage by 20% and the frequency by 30% reduces the power consumption by 60%. Clock gating of non-critical paths can cut that in half again.

It is actually quite simple to reduce power by 80%, without even getting into dynamic frequency and voltage regulation, which can drop power to <5% of the first implementation.

intro at only 900Mhz not a good sign since AMD knows Intel will have 1G PIII notebooks ready by 2H

No doubt Intel has much faster notebook chips just waiting for release but sees no reason to bring them out until AMD shows signs of life.
