Jumper:

A couple of observations.

Teachers up here are well paid, IMO, but a typical salary for an experienced teacher would be around CDN$55,000 to CDN$60,000 . Note the CDN$, which currently purchases US$0.64. And though I loved being a teacher, that was many years ago. Teachers today, both here and in the U.S. have one heck of a lot more aggravation and stupid, time-comsuming administrative nonsense to put up with. When I taught in a teachers' college, I spent a lot of time in a large cross section of schools. I thought then and still do that we get a much better level of dedication and service from these fine folks than we pay for,.... or deserve.

Your comments on our political idiosyncracies and attitudes are right on the money. (g)

Not being an American, my admittedly negative perception of your former president is neither important nor informed. But one thing is for sure and that is my opinion has nothing to do with his sexual exploits. I agree with Trudeau's famous (or is that infamous) quote that government does not belong in the bedrooms (or Oval offices?) of the nation. While few are willing to admit to it publicly, one must be either saintly or perilously close to the open grave to be able to resist the powerful sexual urges that reside within. (g)

I am suppressing a huge grin with respect to your comments on "French girls". Up here, it is as one might expect.... "those Californian gals", "those Southern Belles", those "Swedish babes"....... etc. Is it that the grass is always greener, or that we are less inhibited when we are away from home and neighbours (g)

And finally, the "God forsaken country". Love that reference (which all Canucks use frequently, especially when digging one's car out of the snow or fighting off a horde of Northern Ontario's vicious black flies). (g)

Yet there are times when I am crossing this land, either by car or even better in my little plane, when I look at its immensity , its staggering beauty, its breathtaking geography, and when I meet with the mostly superb folks that it has nurtured, I feel truly blessed. (You KNOW I am getting on in life when I dare commit such feelings to print). (g)

Best, Earlie

And yes,
