While the N.Y. Times said the popularity was similar, details provided by the Times show the popularity of Clinton over various time periods and his popularity at the start was lower. Commentors have said the N.Y. Times fudged in using the word "similar" but I wanted to check it out.

48. Is your opinion of Bill Clinton favorable, not favorable, undecided, or haven't you heard enough about Bill Clinton yet to have an
opinion?

Zoltan, I'm sure you read this story in the WSJ about Toyota's quality program.

interactive2.wsj.com

Fascinating story. The Japanese haven't forgotten what made them an economic powerhouse and American manufacturers still haven't learned the lessons Japan has to teach.

To me it emphasizes the stark reality that not even the genius and fanatical hard work of the Japanese people can overcome the dead weight of a bloated, wasteful, vitality sapping government.

If ever there was a nation of Atlases that needed to do some shrugging, it's Japan.

Clinton's job approval ratings remained in the 60's to the day he left office.
