No contributions are allowed except from voters. These contributions may be unlimited but must be fully and quickly disclosed.

Come on Willcousa you got to be smarter than that. Under this kind of program the Republicans would get about 25 times the donations the Democrats get. Just look at the list of Donors that donated more than $100,000 to either party. The Republicans had over 200 donors to the Democrats 10.

No foreign interest may lobby congress

What have you got against lobbyists? You trying to increase the unemployment rate in DC? American firms lobby all over the word for their own interests. Foreign firms and countries lobby over here as a matter of routine. Israel is probably the most active lobbyist from a national standpoint. Do you really think that we volunteered all those weapons and dollars by going through diplomatic channels? Willcousa you just go to come up with a better program. Beside there is the matter of Free Speech involved. A constituent in Georgia would lobby his congressman on behalf of weapon being built in Georgia (defense pork) that Israel would like to buy if the people in Georgia keep making it. How does that fit in?

>>No foreign interest may lobby congress. They must take their issues through diplomatic channels and be represented by their diplomatic officials. <<

A good idea, but unenforceable. The foreign interest would only need to persuade a friendly US citizen--who under your reform can make unlimited contributions to anyone--to do their lobbying for them.

Applied Materials Announces Voluntary Separation Plan
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2001--Applied Materials, Inc. announced today that it will implement a Voluntary Separation Plan as part of its continuing efforts to reduce costs in response to further cutbacks in capital equipment investment by semiconductor manufacturers. This program will be offered to up to 1,000 employees on a selective basis, the majority of whom are in Santa Clara, California and Austin, Texas. A separation pay and benefits package will be provided to eligible employees who choose to leave the Company under this voluntary program.

Since late January, Applied Materials has implemented a significant number of cost reduction programs in response to the sudden and sharp change in the business environment. However, the continued slowdown in demand for semiconductor equipment requires further action by the Company. Despite this current slower worldwide economic growth and continued weakness in the semiconductor market, Applied Materials remains confident about the long-term business outlook for the industry and the Company.

Applied Materials (Nasdaq:AMAT - news) is a leader of the Information Age and the world's largest supplier of products and services to the global semiconductor industry. Applied Materials' Web site is at appliedmaterials.com.
