i'm hoping to pick some up closer to BV, but it looks like it might not get there. with over $7/share in cash, it's looking very interesting in the mid to upper teens.

Art, I guess I knew the answer to my question...

...when I mentioned yesterday evening that retail pricing was falling
precipitously. It's painfully clear that SanDisk is selling inventory
at a net loss and that the profitability of 2000 will be impossible to
replicate in 2001. In addition to the changes in consumer spending habits,
SNDK faces several other problems over the next few quarters such
as the inability to add new IP licensees, uncertain demand for planned embedded
flash chips and other future products beyond flash cards, the failure of
CF and MMC to emerge as dominant standards in the MP3 and handheld PC
domains, and the prospect of major capital investments during a period
marked by uncertain current and future demand.

Why haven't we been given another crew cut today? Maybe this news is
already factored into the company's prospects? Maybe SanDisk's dead
horse has been whipped enough as it is? Maybe there is a major SDMC
announcement coming up? Maybe things couldn't conceivably be worse than
they are just now.

I don't know what to think anymore other than to look even further into
the future and hope that the company Eli is building will someday look
back on these horrible times and realize that pushing forward despite
near-term uncertainty was the right thing to do.

Eli said during the last c.c. that they are moving forward with their
manufacturing plans in Virginia with the belief that this is a major
investment in the company's future and a necessary step in attaining the
goals he has set for the company. I guess its full speed ahead into
the unknown for the time being.
