Brees, it is startling that you consider my characterization below to be of "right wing thinking." That came entirely from you, you know. I wrote:

I just love it when I see otherwise apparently sensible people bragging that they understand the complexities of life, they possess certainty, they offer the the proper context, they have knowledge of the purpose on which the context is based.

What is striking is that the obvious fact that so many others with different "certainties" have felt (and do e'en as you speak) equally convinced of their monopoly on "understanding," and "purpose," fazes them not at all.

None of them.

They're all, in their infinite variety, just as blithe and certain as they can be.

There are zealots and ideologues on both sides of the political spectrum, is my observation. What do you think the current Political Correctness is about? It's thought-policing, and a left-wing phenom.

I haven't been reading this thread (or any of them) recently, so missed the posts in which you explained what you believe "we can be universally certain about." I was responding only to the post of your I quoted.

Maybe your universal certainty doesn't imply forcing those of other convictions to bend to your will. It often does, of course, as we've seen.

(I'd be interested to see the posts in which you've said what you think we can be universally certain about, but I know the stream moves, and am not asking you to go to a lot of trouble on this....)
