Oh no, he was a terrible person, of course. I don't even think that the effort to find a redeeming dimension to the whole bloody mess was meant to imply that he was anything other than a horror as an individual. Rather, it was an attempt to explain why God would have let things go so far before stopping him, obviously speculative and disputable......

Good. I'm glad we agree that there was nothing good about his person or his actions...

He was a good fighter and leader. He had courage, intelligence and determination. These are good things about his person. But I don't think thats what you meant, and overall I would agree with you (or with what I think you meant), that his actions like killing, burning, raping, looting, and destroying all over Europe where not beneficial or appealing or morally good.
