I am not talking about extreme situations, where we might entertain things otherwise found horrifying. I am talking about the common experience of people losing their temper and regretting their bad behavior; of people overtaken by momentary lust; of children picking on the weakest one on the playground because of uninhibited aggression; of clouded judgment and wanton impulse.

The story of the Fall is about disobedience. Adam and Eve knew God, and had every reason to trust him. Instead of trust, they repaid Him with disrespect and rebellion. Who knows what He had in store for them? Perhaps they were to get the apple in due course? (By the way, it was not an apple of knowledge, but of the knowledge of good and evil, which would not be of much help in winter, even supposing the Eden had a winter)........
