>> Does Sebl still routinely lay off the bottom 5% of their employees based on performance?

I seem to remember hearing that from a sebl employee. It might have even been 10%. Tom runs a tough shop, and demands performance on a monthly basis, or else.

"Does Sebl still routinely lay off the bottom 5% of their employees based on performance?"

I heard they did. An interesting note from our local paper. Cisco was quoted in the SJ Mercury paper yesterday as saying they routinely lay-off the bottom 10% of their employees. 10% sounds awful drastic to me and makes for a very uncomfortable work environment.. Not too mention hyper competitive. And the worst kind of competition.. internal competition rather than focused on the competition or the customer. Has anyone else heard 10% as the 'norm' for companies such as Cisco?

Briefing.com via Yahoo at 1345 ET. For better or worse, will prob influence SEBL for the next few days.

Oracle Corp (ORCL) 15 7/16 -5/8 (-3.9%): Hearing from sources that CSFB is cautious on ORCL; firm feels that while ORCL will probably try to stick to their guidance tonight, they are not confident in ORCL's ability to do so given weakness in applications business and uncertainty in database business.
