Myazawa came out yesterday saying the govt. is considering to put the 'stock market stabilization fund' scheme into effect...that was enough to scare the shorts out and produce some 'we hope it will work like it did in Hong Kong' buying.
so far it's only a threat - Japanese govt. is speculating that people will buy knowing there's now a 'guarantee' of no more downside. it worked 4 or 5 times already over the past ten years (to issue this threat/promise)...the main difference these days is that they have a lot less ammunition to accomplish the hare-brained scheme should it come to that.

btw, Myazawa is the very same guy that presided over their bubble....
