I remember seeing pictures of JFK and RFK staying up all night waffling about sending in the planes until it was too late. JFK was too worried about his place in history to act. There would have been a lot less trouble in Central America if he'd sent the planes.

I've read in several places that JFK was so tough during the missile crisis because he had word the Soviets had fouled up there launch codes and were defenseless. Later in negotiations, JFK gave Nikita K. the name of the Russian Colonel who let that slip.

Remember in that era when Boston columnist Jack Anderson got a list of several of our agents in the Soviet Union AND PUBLISHED IT IN THE PAPER?

I wonder how much of that money ever went to the benefit of the people that needed it.

If I were to offer a guess I would say as much as ever makes it to the people that really need it. 2 cents on the dollar max.
