I would recommend any of the several books by the Dalai Lama. He is western educated and it is not really proselytization. It is a wonderful philosophy. I think you'd enjoy it even if you aren't converted to Buddhism (I wasn't). Reading about it gave me a great deal of respect for the religion though.

Spirituality doesn't require the men or the rules or even a deity, though. Lots of options both traditional and non. I'm quite at peace with mine. I think that's all there is to it, what makes sense to you and helps you be the person you want to be.
