SD, I don't know if this will be useful. I dimly remember another cycle when a poster repeatedly referred to the increasing AMAT job openings [on the web site] - just before the stock started down. This will vary between companies. Some may leave openings up even if they have no intention of hiring now.

I would be interested the see the weekly data, though.

The Internet makes it quite possible to keep track of the hiring trends at these companies. I would be willing to do this on a weekly basis and putting up the results if the idea is sound and there is interest.

Great idea on jobs data.

I had an old boss that used to keep a tally of the number of help wanted pages in the San Jose Mercury News Sunday edition just for this purpose.

I have heard that if you have the right skills, there is no problem finding a job but that many on H1B visa's from India that write java are now working for very low rates so they can stay here. Maybe contract labor rates would also be worth charting?

[I]n my industry, you post a job after you have found a candidate

What is the point of posting a job after finding a candidate to fill it? I assume that you are in biotech?
