Confusion:
All of the press after the announcement read:
Eric resigns Novell, out as CEO, fired, etc. This did not read like Bill Gates promotion to Chief Software Architect and Chairman and Ballmer in as CEO. Underneath it really is the same type of structure, but it was mishandled (again) by Novell in the public message. If Eric is going to stay and work as evangelist and strategist for Novell past this merger, I wish he would make a public statement about his commitment to get Novell through this and make his strategy work with Jack. Otherwise, it really does look like he will only stay long enough to complete the merger and then take his money and run. The market will not like this as there is no reason to believe that anyone else could fill the strategy role for Jack at Novell. Without Eric making this commitment in response to the way the press handled the merger announcement, I doubt Eric plans to stay on. Uh oh ...

Paul and Everyone,
Just heard that Eric Schmidt will be on CNBC power lunch shortly. I think @12.35. Hope he's good
