AJ, I actually decided to buy ORCL and VRTS in afterhours after the ORCL earnings came out and the Futures moved up about 20 points. VRTS re-iterated their positive guidance late today and ORCL actually beat reduced estimates that brought them down to 17-18 a week or two ago. I figure they deserve to go back to 17 at least and we'll see about VRTS. Of course that doesn't mean they will move up but I think they deserve to and I have summoned the stock Gods to make it happen <g>.

CIEN was a great buy in after-hours the other day @53 after re-iterating their guidance, so I am hoping VRTS will give a repeat performance. CIEN ran up 5 points or more the next morning after it re-iterated earlier this week.

I am typically only going long stocks that have recently provided decent to good guidance. VRTS and CIEN have done that and ORCL's guidance was not that bad for 15 cents eps this quarter. Normally it might be, but their stock is so beaten down here, imo.

It's always a chance buying in afterhours or holding until the next morning but I decided that after the ADBE and ORCL earnings were decent and out, it was a bit safer. It is becoming harder with all the choppy whipsaw action to make a buck or two waiting to buy until after the open, so these kind of post-announcement purchases in after-hours may be the types of calculated risks that work out....we'll see. I won't do it often, but I'll pick my spots.
