I do not believe that hedge fund managers pay fear mongers. These may be small shortsellers or just disgrunteled traders relieving steam. Fact is that fear as well as greed is overruling rationale. This is the time for a longterm investor to place his bets. But are there any LT investors left?

Ric--I've noticed increased activity also. Internet message boards enable them to "collude" and operate as a team in shorting forays usually at the end of the day. This is a violation of SEC laws but it is rampant.

IMO these people are new to the market and really believe that their post will help move a stock in the direction they wish. To the extent that the holders of the stock are also new to the market and share the same beliefs about the value of their own post, then some influence is exerted. <g>

As to where they come from, I at first thought the guilty parties were my own kids. But then with all those post, on all those stocks on all those boards, I knew mine were just too lazy to be involved.

<<Where do they come from? Are there still marauding daytrader rooms in existence? What the heck is happening? >>

I bet they are writing checks for new BMWs and Mercedes this weekend.

I figured stocks like ALXN were killer shorts last month, but I was too chicken to follow through.
