I think we are near the bottom. We will get a rally next week.
How long it will last depends on what Greenie does.

I left this out on AIDS and Syphilis from my last post

Larry, I doubt the market can sell of after Greenspan cuts rates (I am expecting 75bps). He can always come back to cut more if necessary before the next week.

I don't believe market losses are really reflected in economic numbers yet. The old numbers on housing starts etc....are simply old. The new numbers in the coming weeks and months are probably going to be pretty bad. Unfortunately, the expert economists and Greenspan are still thinking at pre-internet era speed--seem to be stuck in the 1980s.

To me it looks like a recession is here; the only problem is that this is not being reflected in economic numbers yet.

Greenspan seems too slow to react (the FED should have been more aggressive and a lot earlier). I think Greenspan is going to lose all his credibility that he had earned in the 1990s.

I think the only way the market rallies after the rate cut is if we get 100bps--something that would have shock value. 75bp is not going to shock anyone and that is the problem. It might stabilize the market and that is all. 100bps could spark a rally, IMHO. That may be enough to get money back into the markets as the PE comparison to risk free money market funds gets a lot better.

Larry, I now agree that the bubble is what is holding the market down. That is why I try to avoid going too heavy in tech but it is now hitting other areas too.

I thought about shorting biotech last week and this week but just did not pull the trigger (unfortunately). When stocks that are value stocks go down, you can bet anything with a high PE is in trouble.

What are your thoughts on the coming week.
