L.H: SCM and ERP have been overhyped.The Buyer vendor relation has been extended to include the Contract Manufacturer and the Chanel distrubutor. Each one by hiding his hand has been able to benefit from a LIFO or FIFO situation in a fluctuating market. The net result is that when there is a genuine slowdown as we now have , the total stocks with each player is considerable . In brief, the Inventory shown in the Balance sheet of a Comapny is not the whole story.
