I do believe the markets will be the final arbiter.

The stock market is an arbiter of price. Not of value. It's certainly not an arbiter of Right and Wrong. Hypothetically, let's just suppose our government were to decide that it must protect MSFT's monopolies, and must outlaw Linux and its communist ilk as threats to global capitalism, and must require every citizen to regularly upgrade his Windows software in order to use MSFT's voting software? I think that in this far-fetched scenario, MSFT's stock would go up, don't you? According to your logic, that would mean that the government did the Right Thing. I can't agree with that.
