General Motors Corp (GM) and Impco Technologies Inc.'s (IMCO) Quantum Technologies Inc. unit have started discussions about establishing a business relationship.

Company representatives weren't immediately available to provide additional information.

Quantum Technologies develops hydrogen, natural gas and propane handling and storage technologies for fuel cell and internal combustion engine manufacturers.

General Motors conducts fuel cell research and development through its Global Alternative Propulsion Center.

A Quantum Technologies spokesman elaborated on the potential business relationship with General Motors, saying the options include a potential joint venture in the area of fuel system technology for advanced propulsion systems.

Quantum is currently producing fuel systems for General Motors' alternative vehicle operations.
