<<Where is the money to go if not to the United States?>>

I don't know about his money, my money wants to visit Europe! Springtime in Paris, ya know...<G> Always a nice alternative to money heaven...

EDIT: UFB! While I was entering this, I got a telemarketing call from MBNA America, offering me a Platinum, no annual fee card with a 1.7% promotional rate for 4 mos. The funny thing is, I already HAVE one of their platinum cards! I jerked the salesperson around a bit for fun, a la Seth in Boiler Room, before telling her I already had the card (the thought of abusing the credit card carry trade popped into my mind briefly, but I resisted the temptation)...

i agree...imo the threat of foreign repatriation of funds is a very real, and great one. foreigners are sitting on a MOUNTAIN of claims on the US. eventually some rats will jump ship, and that'll be that. note that the EU, for all its shortcomings, has instituted what for it is a pretty fast pace of reform. also EU citizens are not as exposed to equities as US citizens are...it's a disadvantage during a bull market, but it helps cushion the negative wealth effect during bear markets.
