yes i have...fresh out of high school in the early '70's..where i was at unemployment peaked at 28%.
some of my first investments were in gold shares in the late 70's...i've had several business's over the years that i built from the ground up and later sold, through good times and bad..all were profitable.
now i trade full time and enjoy the good life.

I will bet any amount as well that we will recover. However, I will not underestimate how long it will take. As you say, markets have always moved ahead over the long-run, but sometimes they pause or slide for many years. This may well be one of those times and simply counting on a quick recovery, say, in a year or two, is just another form of trying to pick the bottom imho.

Just be open to the notion that it could take years.
