I think a few pathways stay open. Church must have been very important to him. My mother had hardening of the arteries it was called. When my dad was in the hospital I'd take her to his room and go down for coffee. Time after time I'd get to the cashier and she'd be standing behind me. Ma could have given the Viet Cong lessons on sneaking up. When she was finally in the nursing home she thought she was living in her childhood home. I'd say "mom, lets talk money" and she was sharp as a tack. She smoked two cigarettes a week for 50 years and always wanted one when she was in her sharp times.
