OPEC: Secy Gen:Total Cuts , Incl Non-Opec May Total 1.5M
Dow Jones Newswires

VIENNA -- The secretary general of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Ali Rodriguez, said Friday that total oil output cuts of OPEC members and major non-OPEC countries could total 1.5 million barrels a day.

Speaking to reporters minutes ahead of OPEC's full ministerial meeting, Rodriguez said he couldn't rule out an oil production hike in the second half of the year, a period when demand usually picks up. He added close monitoring of the U.S. and global ecnomomy would be needed before making any such decision.

He said OPEC remains committed to the price band target of $22-$28 a barrel, easing fears that OPEC might opt to shift the lower end of the range to $25 a barrel.
