Commutes in Silicon Valley tend to get easier as we get more day light.

The commutes in winter are tougher, most people want to travel in daylight
or have some daylight left at the begining or end of the day.

Lots of interesting real estate plays in the Valley. Spieker (SPK) was one of
my favorites - very focused on renting to tech. I think that leaves Catellus as
the most focused public Bay Area real estate stock.

Although the Silicon Valley commute seems lighter, the SF Chronicle published Bay Area employment statistics over the weekend. February's report showed virtually no change in unemployment levels. It was suspected that those getting the axe were quickly finding employment elsewhere. However, most of the big layoffs were announced in February, they will not actually go into effect until a month or two down the road.

San Francisco's SOMA has really been feeling it in the commercial rental real estate market. Lots of vacancies now, with actual competition for prospective tenants.

Housing is still ridiculous all over the Bay Area, though. I notice that some of the new home subdivisions are offering houses with 6 or 7 bedrooms. They're targeting to the extended family market, obviously. How'd you like to buy a 3BR/2BA home next to one of these monster homes, only to find later that at least 15 people live in the house next door, and there are 7 or 8 old cars scattered around the neighborhood belonging to the residents, a couple of them constantly parked in front of your front yard.
