Agree that there is risk especially in the wireless telecom chip sector. Nevertheless, the displacement of edge emitting lasers with surface emitting lasers is certain for short reach applications like SAN and GbE. Solar cells for satellites and solid state lighting (for traffic signals) should be relatively insensitive because of the long lead times required for satellites and the current power crisis in the west. The market has lowered expectations for Aixtron and Emcore. For whatever reason, they haven't seen the downturn in bookings even though there is a 30-40% down payment with each order (in Emcore's case). I suppose if the economies really stay depressed beyond this year, even these guys will start feeling it. In the latter case, I expect to see amat and nvls in the 20's and smaller companies selling for cash.
