""As a start-up, you can't afford to do everything," said Brent Bracelin, an analyst at Pacific Crest Securities. "You
can't build and operate a network and hire sales reps [to build out your subscriber base]."

This train of thought always amazes me....if "you can't afford to hire sales reps to build out your subscriber base"...more like you can't afford not to.

Order-takers sitting and waiting for the phone to ring are much more expensive in the long run than a salesforce that is paid on performance/production.

MCOM will be totally obsolete and out-classed beyond all recognition soon, when Sprint PCS has a Qualcomm technology HDR (high data rate) system (nationwide at some point), doing what MCOM does ...

Jon, MCOM is toast to be sure (to little, to late) and the alternative you speak of is already here: Sprint Broadband Direct, offering (a max) download speed of 5 Mbps and a cheaper price than MCOM at $49.95/month (San Francisco Bay Area rate). see sprintbroadband.com for further details & city availability. (my over stuffed arm-chair postulation is they are likely to be using/sharing some of the Sprint PCS antenna sites for their gear).

Best regards,
Geoff
