I don't know what JFK's policies would have been, if he had lived -- while alive they were to the right of Teddy's but to the left of the present government. That is why I said that he "probably" would have opposed Bush's tax bill. JFK is not around to tell us his position.

What I do know for certain is that the tax debate of forty years ago took place in a completely different context -- the world, the American economy, the tax structure were completely different -- when JFK lowered rates, the top marginal rate was 91%! That is why I agree with Matthews that it is disengenuous at best to hijack JFK's words as if they applied to the current debate. It is also a slap in the face to the living Kennedys, who are still very much alive and involved in the debate.
