i like the song - maybe altair19 can teach the NNBM marching band to play it.

i woke up to a dusting of new snow on the yard, went out to do some routine maintenance on the outboard... it was cold, windy, and intermittent rain, sleet, and snow pelted me all day.

i'd ordered a new impeller - took a week to come and cost $30. the old one was working but the motor is 18 years old so i though it wise to replace it. WRONG!! the impeller was the wrong one, the old bolts in the impeller housing stripped out, the old impeller was just fine, i spent all day and half the night putting things back together (had to disassemble and reassemble it three or four times because the shift mechanism didn't work after i put it back together).

i finally got everything back together (after a run to the hardware store for new oversized bolts) with the old impeller and i have my fingers crossed, hoping that everything will still work.

i was thinking this thought to myself all day and night as i worked on it and sure enough, when i shared my frustrations with kathleen after the ordeal she said, "if something isn't broken, usually it's best not to touch it." yeah, yeah, yeah, OK. OK. you're right.

just so i can say it again myself, here is my helpful post...

"if it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!!"

you're welcome.

the rest of my winter/spring boat repairs will be limited to things that are definitely, obviously and completely broken.

i worried all day that i'd never get the motor put back together in working condition. my worry shift is over as of 20 minutes ago. it's your watch now.
