In the longer term higher prices will have some great benefits as a stimulus to innovation for energy efficiency, fuel source/medium substitution and for pollution reduction -- i.e. fuel cells, etc. We all waste what we do not properly value. GST, Agreed this will cause the allocation of resources to stimulate the above. It sure seems it would be better if this allocation could occur without further "unecessary" economic slow down. Apparently, the resources would not be allocated until the pain is well felt.
