Intel Investors - Excellent News !

After baseball practice with Little Lucifer, we stopped in at Fry's in Sunnyvale and found HP 1 GHz Notebook PCs were in stock and on display !!!

HP - Model No. 6395 :

1 GHz Pentium III
256 Meg SDRAM (that's a lot !)
30 Gig Hard Drive
15 in. TFT LCD Display
DVD/CD-ROM

Price - Only $3199 !!

So much for paper launches !

I felt the bottom of the case and it was cooler than my 166 MHz Pentium MMX Sony Vaio notebook !

Re: How many companies can you list that are NOT laying off, and NOT announcing massive reductions in earnings and earnings forecasts?

Thanks very much for the setup, here's the punchline:

AMD just announced they are doubling the capacity of their assembly and test facilities. They expect revenues and earnings to be no worse than flat. This is due to their capture of an increasing share of the shrinking (in value) CPU market. AMD is increasing their workforce and expanding their plant.

:-)

Interesting article on what happened to demand.

dismal.org

Notice the growth rates for computer equipment were over 20% in Q1, Q2 and Q3 but in Q4, it dropped to something like -5%.

No wonder, there is blood in techland.
