Not true...in the mania of 1929, the FED cut 6 times in succession I believe, and of course we all know what happened then.

Where did you come up with this? The great criticism of the Federal Reserve System was that they raised rates and deepened the Great Depression by allowing the money supply to shrink in the 30's.
