I think China growth was 7% in 1999. Anyway, another economic question. The layoffs announced by the big firms (Chrysler 26,000, Cisco 7000, Compaq 5000, Intel 11,000?, etc,,,,) How long does it take these actions to reverberate through the economy ? I know people expect growth to slow or stop. But how long does it take from the first wave of layoffs to a noticeable effect on aggregate income ? If first and second Q are flat or down, can there be much GDP growth in the US this year ? Hopefully I am not trying to get for free any trade secrets.
