well, there must be enough Dems against repealing the marriage penalty that it makes a difference. And probably some stubborn elephants, too, from the looks of things...

There is one thing, of which I am certain, Dale:
We're bound to hear from SOMEONE on this thread that is 'agin' it...<g>

*(*(*(*(*)*)*)*)*)
As far as being cynical about everyone in power, I prefer to refer to myself as a pragmatist in this matter, Dale.

You see, I was intimately involved for years and years and years as a religious musician in a fundamentalist sect, a Nazarene no less. My formal education includes advanced degrees in Choral Arranging and Conducting, emphasis Sacred Music--from a Nazarene secondary school among others...

I learned about NON-authentic power and how it behaves within those "sacred dimensions." I was stunned. And, yes, I was "kicked out of the local church" and it was a biggggggg one, due to MY asking for divorce based on incest, instead of being the one who was being divorced. You see, that religion makes a BIG deal out of who does the "divorcing" when deciding who is a sinner, or at least a "greater sinner."

So, with all that education, and polished skillsets, the Presbyterians, the Congregationalists, the Independent Baptists, and the New-Thought Christianity branches, Catholic-- and others-- have all benefitted from my Nazarene taught musical skills--both vocally and in piano and some in organ-- in positions of leadership OUTSIDE the "mother church" as it were. Now, is that wierd or what?

After having my eyes opened to politics in the local church, I began to study power, and that was LONG before I met Gary Zukov. Perhaps if I'd have met Professor Rarebird first, I'd have learned the "philosophy of power" before I experienced the abuse attendent with NON-authentic power and said behavior.

Not only do I object to displays of NON-AUTHENTIC power, but I strenuously object to people wielding power! No where is my abject abhorence more focused than upon those especially in religious settings who deny they are doing so, or loudly arguing that there is no politics in Bible Thumping Church communities--ostensibly I suppose because such political non-authentic power wielding in said circles would be sin-fullllll, and everyone knows there is no sin in church!

So, as a first hand observer of "non-existant politics in church" and ALSO a pawn on the receiving end of non-authentic political power on a national stage as a woman, a taxpayer, a miner, etc., I re-state: I'm not cynical about all in power...I'm a pragmatist.

AND, I'm a firm believer in the AUTHENTIC POWER of Love, and the practice of love...Freedom and exercise of Choice. If that position makes me a democrat, a republican, a liberal or an independent, or a libertarian, then THAT is news to me.

Selah.
