Well, the Japanese govt buys stock because they still have those Kireitus which seek to prevent foreign acquisition of their corporations.

Number one there have been many investments made by the US in Japan during the last four years. We can call this everyone loves a fire sale and hope in truth that it does not end up to be burnt twice first them then us.

One thing no matter who you are and how powerful you are there is always the point where return of capital is not coming in. As much as i prefer the more honest side of life i am very aware of the attempted manipulation by companies of their own stock, the problem is that there is a now a larger public involved in the market too this can deter the propping and cause a plop. Kireitus could find it is not so easy as it use to be and their sources are not infinite.
In my mind when you look at nasdq there was no way in God's green earth it could be propped.
