Sun Microsystems and VERITAS Software Unveil VERITAS Cluster Server For the Sun StorEdge T3 Array
Sun and VERITAS Software Deliver on Strengths of Strategic Relationship; Customers Benefit From Expanded Consulting, Education and Support Services, Including Maximum Uptime and Data Protection
PALO ALTO, Calif. and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news) and VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS - news) today announced VERITAS Cluster Server(TM) clustering support for the Sun StorEdge(TM) T3 array. Sun's highly scalable storage system for mission-critical enterprise environments is now certified by both Sun and VERITAS Software to support VERITAS Cluster Server running on the Sun Solaris(TM) operating environment. VERITAS Cluster Server is scalable software designed to proactively manage the availability of enterprise services in clustered environments.

The exceptionally strong relationship enjoyed by VERITAS Software and Sun makes it possible to collaboratively develop solutions for complex technical problems shared by their mutual customers. Fulfilling the Companies' promise of an expanded strategic alliance, which combines collaborative development, testing and a go-to-market strategy, and seamless customer support, Sun and VERITAS Software teamed closely to certify VERITAS Cluster Server installations running on Sun StorEdgeT3 arrays.

Sun StorEdge T3 array customers can now use VERITAS Cluster Server to create highly available server clusters by connecting two or more servers to a common storage resource. If a failure occurs on one or more servers, VERITAS Cluster Server automatically migrates applications to another server in the cluster with no administrator intervention. The Sun StorEdge T3 array can strengthen cluster performance through its high-availability capabilities, including redundant and hot-swappable components that scale to increase reliability as the storage network grows.

``Last year VERITAS Software and Sun committed to setting new standards in enterprise reliability,'' said Peter Levine, executive vice president, strategic and platform operations, VERITAS Software. ``The companies have made significant progress in our commitment to an expanded relationship. Our mutual customers appreciate the benefits of this synergy as their businesses demand increasingly higher levels of reliability.''

``The Net Effect has put pressure on enterprise data centers to be incredibly scalable while also maintaining the highest levels of availability,'' said Janpieter Scheerder, executive vice president, Sun Network Storage. ``IT professionals struggle to achieve the scalability and data availability they require when they're forced to integrate independent components. Customers benefit greatly from a fully integratable end-to-end stack. VERITAS clustering support for the highly scalable Sun StorEdge T3 array demonstrates the mutual commitment of both Sun and VERITAS Software to delivering integrated products for continuous, real-time access to information.''

Sun StorEdge T3 Array Offers Heterogeneous, High-availability Features

Ideal for Clustered Environments

In addition to its performance and scalability strengths, the Sun StorEdge T3 array provides the interoperability and high availability ideal for clustered networks. Beyond its clustering capabilities with Sun Cluster for Solaris and VERITAS Cluster Server, the Sun StorEdge T3 array offers support for all major operating system environments, such as Windows NT, HP-UX, IBM AIX and Linux.

The array provides added high-availability features to guard against service interruption. In the event of a component failure, the array's hot-swappable redundant RAID controllers, host connectors, power and cooling units, interconnect cards and drives work to continue operations. As capacity increases, the array's availability scales with the additional data paths and redundancy features, so customers can be assured that they will not jeopardize data availability as their data storage requirements grow.

I visited the new site and it is very slow to load and too frustrating waiting. Who wants to be slowed down waiting for a page to load. Not a very user friendly site at all.
