"Verizon Wireless will begin to deploy its first phase of 3G technology, known as cdma2000* 3G1XRTT, in its
premier, coast-to-coast network later this year. This 3G introduction will be the first commercial system in the
United States."

Not the first as Sprint has signed 1X contracts outstanding. Not even the second according to NXTL CEO Donahue.

Ben:

Verizon Wireless also will deploy cdma2000 1XEV-DO, a technology compatible with existing and new base stations which enables data-only services to customers requiring even higher Internet access speeds for needs such as transmitting graphic-intensive files or streaming video downloads.

I didn't see any mention (yet) of Sprint also deploying 1XEV-DO for HDR applications up to 2.4 Mbps, all that we've heard so far (I think) is 1XRTT from Sprint, doubling voice capacity and offering data rates up to 144 Kbps.

Maybe we'll get more details from Sprint in their announcement at CTIA today (or maybe I've missed something again!)
