TA,

I also whittled down my ALA position: Still have about 3/8s. Sold about 10% near the high and the rest on the way down. Will hold the remainder for the long term.

I also tend to ignore polluck. He's seems completely incapable of adding any value whatsoever. Rather he chooses to seek out bearish articles and post them without any comment or analysis, or, for that matter, understanding.

Most of the bearish perspectives seem to look at the sector as one monolithic entity without any appreciation for the various components that make up today's networks. The premise that there's a glut of bandwidth doesn't seem to appreciate that as bottlenecks are eased in one sector of the network, other bottlenecks become exposed in different sectors thus requiring more provisioning. Nor does there appear to be any appreciation as to how fast the technology productivity / efficiency is improving.

Where a Crossbar switch had a depreciation life cycle in excess of 25 years, many parts of the fiber optics and wireless equipment sector have useful lifes more closely approximating the electronic equipment sector - about 4 years or less. While this may put additional pressure on the service providers, IMO, it's ideal for the Telecom Equipment providers.

All the same, Bears outnumber the bulls and have stock prices down for now. In the longer term, the fear of a recession will abate. Investments in the sector will, IMO, yield significant rewards to investors.

FWIW,
Ian.

Tuna, are you certain that those two have been more accurate? NT is trading near a 52-week low, down from a high of 86. You are sitting with JDSU, how much pain are you experiencing? What is your cost basis? Yes, in the long run most things should be higher.

You and your buddies just don't like any bad news to be posted. If you want to sanitize the NT and ALA thread contact the operators of Silicon Investor and maybe they will change the rules just for you.

No one here should be intimidated by the childish comments you post.
