JDS Uniphase Delivers Integrated Optical Solutions That Provide Increased Network Capacity, Reach, Flexibility and Reliability
New Products, Latest Technology Showcased in End-to-End Live Demonstration At OFC 2001
OFC 2001, ANAHEIM, Calif., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU; Toronto: JDU) today announced 70 new products, presented in a new network solutions approach that it will introduce at the Optical Fiber Communications conference. A broad array of new products will also be assembled from across its portfolio into a live, end-to-end demonstration. The solutions approach focuses on four key areas of network design -- increasing capacity, reach, flexibility and reliability -- and allows this broad range of products to be presented simply and effectively to customers.
The four solutions evolved from the company's increasing focus to better understand network requirements and anticipate customer needs.

Network Capacity
The need to expand the network to accommodate additional traffic continues to be a focus for fiberoptic system providers as the demand for bandwidth continues to grow. As part of this solution JDS Uniphase will introduce new DWDM products, which increase the number of simultaneous channels that carry signals in a fiber, as well as the 40 Gb/s Intensity Modulator and the Tunable Dispersion Compensator which will help enable the next generation of higher speed systems.
Network Reach
Fiberoptic equipment providers must reduce the number of regeneration points in order to provide the farthest reach possible at the lowest cost. New products that JDS Uniphase will introduce as part of this solution at OFC include the Dynamic Gain Equalizer and Raman C+L Band Amplifiers.
Network Flexibility
Fiberoptic equipment suppliers must provide systems with enhanced flexibility to redirect capacity to meet usage demands. JDS Uniphase will show network flexibility solutions with innovative products such as the Tunable Add/Drop, which uses MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) to provide dynamic switching capability.
Network Reliability
Reliability becomes an even greater concern for network equipment suppliers and service providers deploying mission-critical services as more data flows over the Internet. The Company will be introducing new, smaller switches using MEMS and MOMS (micro opto-mechanical systems) technology and new monitoring products from modules to full-featured devices measuring power, signal-to-noise and wavelength.
JDS Uniphase will exhibit products from across its broad range of fiberoptic technologies -- including 40 Gb/s modulators, tunable lasers, dynamic gain equalizers, 25 GHz interleavers, 10 Gb/s transponders, VMUX (AWG with integrated variable attenuator), MEMS and MOMS switches, and optical performance monitors -- within one operable, live end-to-end demonstration. Customers attending the show can also participate in the in-booth Design Center, collaborating with JDS Uniphase designers to create customized integrated solutions.
