most of it is probably corporate insiders selling and employees stuck with tax on ISOs

plus a lot of mutual funds had large cap gains distributions notwithstanding where the funds were at the end of the year in relation to the top...

Maybe not. I be you more then not, that long term holdings where sold off during 2000. I for one booked more last year then in 1999. The real short fall will be 2001 and beyond.

The folks who lost money last year were the sprouts who just got in. Most of us had huge gains last year and got the hell out as the market began to weaken.

I suspect 2000 to have RECORD capital gains. This year will be another matter.
