SDMC will be more expensive than MMC on a MB for MB basis due to the added proprietary encryption software, manual write protections switch, etc... It will be interesting to see SDMC advantages over MMC. Well, if it is true that SD will cost more, until there are apps in widespread use requiring security, there won't be much demand for them. It doesn't make sense that SNDK will only supply SD cards while Infineon will only supply MMC. Maybe the press releases were written without being clear and each company will supply both? That would make more sense. I'm confused. Are Siemens and Infineon the same company?

Aus, assuming the latest reports are correct, I don't see much reason to be upset with some other company providing low capacity, low margin cards. I wonder, however, whether SNDK gets any royalties from anyone making a MMC card with read and write capabilities. I think the SNDK strategy here is to supply the higher capacity cards in the retail market, leaving the low capacity, limited use cards to other manufacturers. This strategy can only work if there is enough demand to use existing manufacturing capacity. If you have idle capacity, supplying even a low margin item is better than nothing. The other issue is whether SNDK can be the lowest cost producer. If so, then there's little to worry about. But we don't know. . . Art
