You are wrong on at least one of two counts, arguably. Most likely both. Best beer and cheapest. I can think of a bunch of places that are better. Even Thailand comes to mind. Canada would be last in my mind when looking for good beer, as would the standard us types.

I resent that remark! Portland is home to some of the best beer on the planet, and most of it can't be had in bottles - period. Not quite cheap at four clownbux per pint.

Our IPA's are the best. F*ck that Buschweiser's Best crap - they're a poor representative of American brewing skill.

Sam Adams is real good beer, especially the IPA. It's almost as good as Pilsner Urquel, and nothing is better than Pilsner Urquel.

Allan,

Re WTF would you guys know about good beer? American beer is cheap, but
there's a very good reason for that. -g

The best beer is not made in either of our countries. Period.

That is only partly true. Making decent beer / lager is pretty easy. I have to frequently desist making it myself (currently banned) as it's too easy. There are only four ingredients. Water Malted barely, Hops and Yeast. If any more are listed it means, almost certainly IMHO, the stuff will taste like chit.

Even in the UK, where top brewing ales reign supreme, there is general agreement by the beer tasting elite that bottom brewed Eastern European/German/Belgian lagers are the best.

Some of the recipes have been exported to Asia, and they have very good local varieties.

In the USA, some of the micro-breweries make excellent stuff, there is no mystique or difficulty making good beer or lager though.

How and why the big commercial USA breweries insist, not only make bilge water, but piss weak bilge water is beyond my comprehension. They are selling it here now, although a spruced up 4-5% alcohol by vol. variety. The advertising and fashion sense seem to be working and it's selling. It won't last though.

Re the market. over the next week.

I expect TR to reign, but if we get any downside surprises, only GTC's will work as I don't expect to be able to trade because of volume -g-

Pearly.

Anchor Steam and Otter Creek come to mind. They are pretty good. So is Sierra Nevada. All US.

I like Bass Ale a lot.

I don't care much for German beers.
