ad, Kumar's outlook: I don't think anybody at all can reliably predict 2H01 and 1H02. But he has the public's ear.

RE: "I'd feel better about the whole group if INTC showed some strength."

Ashok's comments while important are another set of predictions that are all over the pavement. Of all the predictions by all the analysts just one is going to be right. And that man or woman is going to walk into the bosses office and demand a million dollar raise. And the next day that analyst will be interviewed by Joe Kernen, and Maria on her weekend show. (if she still has it).

A higher stock price for INTC makes everything they want to so so much easier. Its also possible that INTC will be using some spare cash to support the stock price as they have done in the past.A couple years back posters would post comparative charts of AMAT and INTC. There was a relationship but nothing you could bank on.

Re Ashok Kumar on Intel

"If we do enter into a recession in the second half of 2001, it is likely that Intel will retest the valuation lows of 1998, which would take the stock down to the high teens."

He goes on to say he like Intel for the long term. They asked him "why not sell and buy back cheaper?" and he had no answer other than saying he liked it for the long term.

I can restate that so we can understand it better. "If pigs had wings, they'd fly."

I saw it as a CYA statement that added little. He said what we all know. "IF we get a full blood recession, THEN Intel MIGHT retest its 1998 lows". Lots of IFs and ZERO predictions.

Heck, I'll be even bolder: "If nobody buys chips from Intel, then Intel's stock will go down." Did I add much value to Kumar's statement?

I think he wants to be "on record" for "predicting" that Intel will test 1998 levels IF that happens and he ALSO wants to be "on record" as long Intel. "Slimy bastards" is a term that comes to my mind when I think about it a bit.
