Counter Argument.. there's plenty of room for CPQ, DELL, IBM, HWP, AAPL, SGI.. and a host of other pc makers to all thrive and prosper. Its Wrong thinking to believe that DELL will eat CPQ's lunch or vice versa.. in even the smallest economic pond there's never just one big shark.

B. the desktop is not dead, nor is it running out of applications or needs. True there will be many new portable electronic devices, yet for all their niftyness, even cell phones are frowned on in resturants and theater.

We like to be free.. Objects we have to carry, and objects we have to respond to, intrude on our lives as much as they free us. A few still carry around the cool Swiss army knife.. but I don't.

AND Just because someone came up with an insulated picnic basket and SUV's with refrigerated compartments, the home kitchen big box never went out of business, in fact its only gotten more complex and robust. So too with fixed PC's.. they'll only get more able as they integrate other lesser appliances.

Demand will be there, we're just at a molting stage of shedding old skin for new implementations.
