You plan to short and hold long simultaneously? The way I figure it, after tax, only the IRS wins in that strategy. Or am I missing something here?

Maybe instead of borrowing someone else's shares you would just borrow your own? Or maybe just sell them outright, and at the price point where you feel you would stop shorting, pick them up again.

But holding long and shorting simultaneously just strikes me as odd.
