semi2000,

The Fed certainly voiced its independence and went with the "wuss" move as Lawrence Kudlow would say. For speculation, I wonder if Alan is trying to deliver some forced medication to the Japanese. As of April 1st, all its banks will have to market to market their securities holdings, and for the first time ever the true worth of these banks will be known. Japan needs radical change, but with an impotent government, it ain't gett'in it. Some have theorized that the Nikkei must be above 14,000 for many of the banks to show solvency. Perhaps by restraining the American markets, Alan hinders any liquidity/advance in the Nikkei by April, forcing action in Japan (perhaps), and then Alan can ride to the rescue with an inter meeting cut in mid/late April. Crazy?

Cheers,

Tom
