We have adequate reason, I think, to resist placing heterosexual marriage on the same plane as a homosexual union. I do think, though, that the idea that someone who is kin by blood, but without intimate knowledge of one's wishes, should make the call for medical decisions when one is incapacitated, or be able to claim substantial commingled assets if one dies intestate, is not right, whether sex is involved in the setting up of a shared household or not. As Nadine pointed out, one could use the example of widows living together in mutual aid and friendship, and raise similar questions........
