It's not just a strange century- the history of man is a history of twisting and turning words. That is what we DO. Think of how the words of Socrates were twisted against him. Or the words of Gallileo. Think of people through the centuries who scalded each other with boiling liquids from ramparts, or impaled each other on spears, ripped each other apart with horses, burned each other at stakes, hacked each other to pieces with swords and axes. Hitler found a way to murder efficiently- but so did the US with the atom bomb (not that the Germans and every one else on Earth didn't want the A bomb too). But we ALL want to murder- we just want to murder different people.

As Breez pointed out we are more than content to murder Iranians (well not me, but any of you out there not complaining about it to your congresspeople are content with the status quo). We are no better than the Germans- don't kid yourself. We live in a different time, under different circumstances- but when and if mass murder ever becomes a way to bond together as Americans- if it ever seems to become a convincing way to obtain national salvation- we will turn on our fellow Americans and eat them alive. There is no mercy at the core of humanity. There is a raw naked will to survive- don't kid yourself about that. It's why animals do survive. And it finds strange outlets in "sophisticated" animals such as ourselves.
